The Other Side of F R A G M E N T S

“The important thing is to get across a meaning or emotion.”

That doesn’t mean you want every utterance to be cryptic—neither do you want them formal.

The art is finding a middle ground that doesn’t rasp at the reader, flows with the tone intended, while getting the point across without slowing down the reader.

My argument is, formal prose can slow down the reader as much as idiom.
